A Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr.

The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., Pastor Emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL, is a world-renouned preacher and has preached at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia a number of times over the years, and at Preaching with Power 2009 the seminary recognized Dr. Wright for his many contributions to the seminary. This short video of clips of Dr. Wright preaching at LTSP events and commencement was played at Preaching with Power.

Dr. Wright's connections to Philadelphia and LTSP are much deeper than his preaching. He was born in Philadelphia, and is the son of the late Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Sr., who in 1949 was one of the first two African Americans to receive a STM degree from the seminary. Pastor Wright served as pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia's Germantown section for 42 years, and was the congregation's pastor emeritus for an additional 21 years during retirement.

LTSP has established an endowed chair, The Jeremiah A. Wright, Sr., Chair in African American Studies. Learn more about the Wright Chair and how you can make a gift to help endow the chair, LTSP's Urban Theological Instute and Preaching with Power.
